Going Around By Boat
River travel in Brazil in unlike any other in the world. The reason for such an amazing trip would be the Amazon River, which is very much like a highway is to Los Angeles.
Traveling using a boat will take you to the most interesting sites in Brazil. In the first place, for some areas in Brazil, boat travel is your only option.
Going Around By Bus and Tram
If you need to travel long distance, bus or tram is a good choice. The service is usually very efficient and dependable. The buses used are clean and comfortable Mercedes, Scanias and Volvos.
There are 3 classes of bus service in Brazil. The conventional bus is the cheapest and is quite comfortable with a toilet on board. The executive bus has reclining seats and cost about 25% more, but you get to your destination much faster. The third class is the overnight sleeper which even has seats that can turn into beds. These are the most expensive and luxurious. It even has an attendant to serve you your drinks and sandwiches.
When you get inside a city, the local buses are usually efficient as well, not to mention cheap. You should expect them to be full since most Brazilians tend to use buses as their main means of transportation.
Going Around By Car or Motorcycle
If you have a weak heart, don’t attempt to drive around Brazil. There is a lot of anarchism on the roads, which while it may be entertaining to watch and hear stories about, can be sheer terror if you are behind the wheel.
Going Around By Train
There are lovely steam trains you can ride in that hark back to visions of centuries old means of traveling around a country. Other than these steam trains, the railway system is mostly used for cargo freight.
Going Around By Metro
The metro is the modern way of going around. They are only available in two cities – Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo. These are very safe to go on, much more than buses, and cost-wise, they are very cheap. It is one of the best ways to see the city.
Going Around By Bicycle
If you really want to live dangerously, you could try traveling around Brazil’s cities on a bike. You will have to watch out for speeding cars, trucks and large vehicles that could frighten you off the road.
Safety is another issue since you will be biking without much protection. You will also be vulnerable to the weather. However, if you are really determined to go biking for the thrill of doing it, make sure you bring enough spare parts and repair kits since bike shops in Brazil are not that easy to find.
