The city’s massive network of parkways and expressways link the city of New York to other states such as Long Island, Westchester County, New Jersey and Connecticut through tunnels and suspension bridges. One of the busiest bridges in the world in terms of vehicle traffic is the George Washington Bridge.
The New York City Subway is notable for having the most number of operating stations which makes it the biggest rapid transit system in the world. The New York City subway is unlike other systems in most big cities like London, Tokyo, Paris and Madrid in that the NYC subway stays open for 24 hours everyday.
New York City also has three major airports namely, John F. Kennedy International, LaGuardia, and Newark Liberty International. A fourth airport is planned which shall be known as Stewart International Airport. Travelers from around the world and outside New York City can easily gain access to the city through traveling by air.
Additionally, tourists can easily get around New York City through walking and cycling as both are a common mode of travel by the New Yorkers, making the Big Apple the most energy-efficient major city in the U.S.
In the Big Apple, streets are a defining characteristic of the city despite the fact that the New York City populace relies heavily on public transit.
